In the enclosed dungeon
shuddering
I lay breathless
suffocating
endlessly here forever
waiting
not to yield
wanting
hoping for the hopeless
grace
in my destined final
embrace
I hear the
voices
on the other
shore
the sorrows I
caused
the tears someone
bore
now it's my
heart
to them reaches
out
yet they know of
nothing
my heart is myrrh
burning
and oblivious to my
prayer
love weeps at my
door
shuddering
I lay breathless
suffocating
endlessly here forever
waiting
not to yield
wanting
hoping for the hopeless
grace
in my destined final
embrace
I hear the
voices
on the other
shore
the sorrows I
caused
the tears someone
bore
now it's my
heart
to them reaches
out
yet they know of
nothing
my heart is myrrh
burning
and oblivious to my
prayer
love weeps at my
door
i like the parting line... it leaves reader wanting more...

DeleteYour poetry is like a story. And just when you want to know what happens, it stops. I love that!
ReplyDeleteThough this poem shares quite a bit of pain, I like that it also speaks of hope and grace; and I hope for love to triumph in the end.
ReplyDeleteyes,it is love that triumphs, but one is unable to express, and the other never knows.
Deletequite emotive...the feeling of being trapped in waiting is def real...i have been there....that final reaching out...unsure of how it will work and the love left weeping....nice verse
ReplyDeletethanks
DeleteWe can feel the pain and also wonder about the context - and whether the dungeon is real or a metaphor. A lot of beautiful lines in your poem, Jossina!
ReplyDeleteit can be understood in both the contexts and thanks for your compliment
DeleteThe ending is so sad ~ Enjoyed this one ~
ReplyDeletethanks Grace
Delete'my heart is myrrh
ReplyDeleteburning'.........this is so poignant....
I noted the same line that Sumana did. The closing lines are so poignant.
ReplyDeleteThis is deep and felt jossina. I especially like your final two stanzas.
ReplyDeletewe all have some nay regrets and when our time will come they might haunt us.
ReplyDeleteThat was sad...yet beautiful... The other heart may never know...
ReplyDeleteWonderfully written....
ReplyDeleteiced desire
